To create a vision for Downtown’s streetscapes, open spaces, pedestrian areas, parking lots, and newly acquired Downtown property, the Village of Antioch initiated a design and planning process in late February 2021. The Village Board hired The Lakota Group, a Chicago-based firm specializing in urban design, landscape architecture, planning, community engagement, and historic preservation, to conduct the process and develop the plan.

Key steps in the process will focus on collecting and reviewing data; preparing maps; meeting with Village leaders, staff, and stakeholders; conducting land-use and physical conditions analyses; and identifying issues and opportunities. This will be followed by the creation of a clear and exciting vision for Downtown, built on community input, celebrating Antioch’s unique qualities and setting the stage for a vibrant and resilient local economy.

The Antioch Downtown Beautification Plan is an eight-month process that focuses on three main phases:

2. Envision + Explore

3. Implement

We’re back at the Summer Wine Walk for a second pop-up workshop, where we share design concepts that focus on improving the Downtown’s physical environment. Join us anytime between 12 noon and 2 pm to discuss different concepts for Antioch’s major streets as well as the recently acquired vacant property. Our team members will be there to chat with residents and understand their priorities for Downtown Antioch.

As part of this initiative, the Village of Antioch will undertake a meaningful, all-inclusive public participation program that engages community members, residents, and property owners, among other interested stakeholders. An open and transparent public engagement effort will help gather input and feedback throughout the process to envision the future of Downtown Antioch. There will be several ways you can share your input. Over the coming months, starting in April, the Village and design team will conduct stakeholder interviews, post an online survey questionnaire, and host a series of virtual workshops.
