Argonne National Laboratory Wayfinding Directional Signage

Lemont, Illinois

Argonne National Laboratory is a science and engineering research laboratory managed by UChicago Argonne LLC under the United States Department of Energy. The 1,700 acre campus receives thousands of visiting scientists, researchers, and general visitors each year. Due to a lack of wayfinding signage, visitors found it difficult to navigate the large campus. The Lakota Group was hired to develop wayfinding directional signage to address this issue and to establish a consistent look to reinforce Argonne’s brand identity. The signage identifies four distinct areas on campus, which are reinforced with specific colors to depict each area. Forty-seven wayfinding directional signs were designed and installed as part of this project. Argonne National Laboratory plans to adjust their maps to align with the developed brand and will continue to install additional signage as funds become available.
