Highland Park Central East and Central Avenue/Deerfield Road Survey Update
Highland Park, ILThe City of Highland Park hired The Lakota Group and Benjamin Historic Certifications to update a 1999 survey of the areas east and west of the central business district, land originally platted by Cleveland and French for the Highland Park Building Company in 1872. The Central East Area reflects the distinctive architectural character envisioned by Highland Park’s early builders and architects with a range of architectural styles dating from the 1870s to the mid-20th century. The Central Avenue/Deerfield Road area includes modest working class houses which are vernacular in type, dating from the 1870s to the mid-20th century. The survey encompasses 458 properties and identifies, documents, and evaluates their architectural significance. This information will assist the City of Highland Park in making long-term preservation planning decisions, including the possibility of designating individual buildings and districts as local landmarks or listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
