The County of Maui is embarking on the creation of a new Historic Preservation Plan – the first one in more than 30 years. A historic preservation plan is a critical component of long-range planning, providing a road map and blueprint for preserving and managing the County’s significant historic and cultural resources. Recognizing the importance of Maui’s cultural heritage to local quality of life and economic vitality, the County completed the first phase of the planning process in 2019 with an assessment of key preservation issues and will begin creating the Preservation Plan in 2021. There will be several opportunities for the public to participate in the planning process, including attending plan review meetings and community workshops, as well as submitting questions and sharing mana‘o online. Help us in shaping Maui County’s new Historic Preservation Plan.

We welcome and encourage you – the residents and stakeholders of Maui Nui – to participate in the development of the Historic Preservation Plan. Your input is crucial! There are several ways you can stay informed and share your manaʻo throughout the planning process.
